The local vet, Denise Randall, performs a necropsy on a black bear while the park ranger, Sherman holds a flashlight for her. She is shaken when she finds a human hand among the contents of its stomach.

At the Jeffersonian Institute Medico-Lab, Temperance looks at a picture of the hand and tells Seeley that it looks human. Seeley tells her it was found inside a bear in Washington State. She views more pictures of the bone fragments that were retrieved from the bear’s stomach and determines that the hand was severed from the body before the bear ingested it. Seeley informs her that they are going to Washington State to investigate the case.

As they walk through the Jeffersonian, Temperance complains to Dr. Goodman about Seeley deciding that she has to go to Washington State. Goodman corrects her assumption that Seeley made the decision about her going and tells her that it’s his decision, not Seeley’s. Goodman explains that he’s sending her to give her the opportunity to interact with people outside of the Jeffersonian.

Temperance and Seeley are driving along a mountain road and discussing per diem. She reveals that she has no daily limit as he does and she imagines that it’s because she has “an indispensable skill.” He wants her to take him to dinner but she agrees to buy him breakfast instead.

When they arrive in town, Seeley walks in the opposite direction of the hotel. Temperance wonders what where he is going and he explains that he’s going to ask someone how to find the sheriff. He walks off to continue his search for the sheriff as she heads in the other direction.

Denise explains that she called Dr. Rigby when she found the remains in the bear to verify that they were human. Temperance offers her preliminary analysis of the remains and asks Dr. Rigby if he has performed any recent amputations. He tells her he has and asks why. She tells him that there are saw marks on the remains.

Temperance arrives at the local courier’s building with a box of human remains and tells Charlie she needs to ship them to the Jeffersonian overnight. They engage in idle chat and she asks where she can find the sheriff. Charlie recognizes her name and tells her he’s reading her book.

At the Jeffersonian, Zack analyzes the images Temperance sent from Aurora. He becomes frustrated because he is not able to reach a conclusion without help. Angela offers to help him and tells him that he shouldn’t be hard on himself.

Seeley and Sheriff Cutter discuss the case as they walk through town. Sheriff Cutter tells Seeley that a tourist named Ann Noyse disappeared a couple of weeks ago.

Sheriff Cutter and Seeley discuss crime in Aurora as they return to Cutter’s office. Temperance arrives and Sheriff Cutter asks if he can help her. She pushes past the secretary to enter the room and indicates that she’s with Seeley. Sheriff Cutter comments to Seeley in a low tone of voice: “Suddenly, I wish I was FBI,” at which Seeley chuckles. Seeley introduces Temperance to Sheriff Cutter and the three of them discuss the case. Temperance asks if the bear scat has been checked for more remains and Sheriff Cutter offers to organize that with the Sherman.

At the Jeffersonian, Jack and Zack discuss the case. A beautiful delivery woman arrives with the package of remains addressed to Zack. Jack jumps up to sign for the package and takes the opportunity to flirt with the woman.

Temperance, Seeley, and the Sherman walk through the woods in search of bear scat. Seeley walks ahead of them and finds the scat. Temperance squats and begins to collect samples of it while she sends Seeley to find more.

Temperance brings the box of scat to Charlie to be delivered to the Jeffersonian overnight and they have a brief discussion about her book. Zack calls her cell phone to update her on their findings and ask her to look at something he is unable to categorize. He sends her some images and she determines that the killer is also a cannibal.

Temperance discloses the new findings to Sheriff Cutter and Seeley. In the course of their conversation, Temperance realizes that a cannibal is going to get sick from eating human flesh.

Angela and Zack discuss the teeth marks in the lab at the Jeffersonian. Jack paces as he waits for the delivery woman to bring the bear excrement. A man enters the lab and tells Zack that he is wanted upstairs.

The delivery woman is waiting with the package. She flirts with Zack and tells him: “I could just eat you up,” as she rubs his chin. She leaves and Zack watches her go with his mouth agape.

Temperance asks Dr. Rigby if he’s treated anyone with Prione disease. He tells her that he hasn’t. She becomes suspicious when he mentions the cannibal and he tells her that the entire town knows about it already.

At the Jeffersonian, Jack and Zack examine the excrement while arguing over the situation with the delivery woman. Jack finds a piece of skin in the excrement that has a tattoo on it.

Angela reconstructs the tattoo from the design found on the pieces of skin that were recovered from the excrement. Jack and Zack argue over whom the delivery woman likes more.

Angela tells Temperance via computer satellite phone call that the victim had a Haida Sun tattoo. Temperance disconnects when Angela turns the conversation to social happenings rather than business. Sheriff Cutter identifies the victim as Adman Langer and tells Temperance and Seeley that Adam wanted to be a park ranger and visited Sherman on a regular basis.

Temperance, Seeley, and Sheriff Cutter arrive at Sherman’s home. Sheriff Cutter suggests that he go make them some tea to give Temperance and Seeley time to search the house and Sherman takes the opportunity to leave through the back door. Seeley chases Sherman through the woods as Temperance and Sheriff Cutter search the house. They find a saw and fresh meat in a freezer. Temperance takes an apple core from the trashcan to measure the bite marks. Seeley looses Sherman in the woods when Sheriff Cutter’s flashlight batteries die.

While Temperance and Seeley are in the car, she tells Angela that she sent the meat overnight for analysis. She also tells Angela that Seeley lost Sherman in the woods and he becomes defensive saying it’s not his fault. They argue over it and Angela tells Temperance that she needs to take him for a drink and some fun.

Temperance dances with Charlie while Seeley sits down at the bar. Dr. Rigby cuts in just after Charlie starts discussing the case and he and Temperance dance. As Rigby begins discussing the case, Sheriff Cutter cuts in to dance with her and discuss the case. She continues to protest about discussing the case and Seeley cuts in on Sheriff Cutter. Seeley and Temperance dance while he explains that the men were not interested in discussing the case and that Denise is jealous of the attention the men are giving Temperance.

Jack analyzes a mushroom while he waits for the next delivery.

Temperance, Seeley, and Sheriff Cutter search the woods for Sherman.

An exhausted Jack sits at his desk when Zack arrives with the package. Jack is frustrated at having missed the delivery woman. While he worked through the night, he discovered that the fir trees are infested with beetles.

Temperance, Seeley, and Sheriff Cutter find Sherman sitting on a rock waiting for them. Zack calls Temperance on her cell phone and tells her that the meat is black bear. She informs Seeley and Sheriff Cutter that Sherman is the poacher and that is the reason he ran from them. She also tells them, “The bear dug up the arm in a stand of Western Pine Beetle infested Douglas Fir.”

A handcuffed Sherman leads them to the Douglas Firs as he explains why he poaches the bears. Seeley finds what he thinks is a satanic stone circle. Temperance takes pictures of it and sends them to Angela for identification. Temperance looks around and finds two bodies buried under some pine needles. Sherman recognizes Adam’s body and Seeley surmises that the woman must be Ann Noyse. Temperance discovers that Ann’s heart is missing.

At the Jeffersonian, Dr. Goodman examines the images and deduces that it’s a perverse version of an Indian Medicine Wheel. He discovers that the killer is performing an Indian healing ritual by consuming the human body parts. The killer has consumed the arm for strength and the heart for spirit. He tells Angela that it is likely there will be two more victims.

Temperance and Dr. Rigby perform autopsies on the two bodies. Chris, Seeley, and Sherman talk in the hall outside of the examination lab. Sherman tells them that Denise is having an affair with several of the men in town and Adam was one of them. Sheriff Cutter admits that he is one as well. Zack tells Temperance via cell phone that the bite marks from the apple do not match the bite marks on the remains. She relays the information to the others and Seeley decides to check the bite marks of other townspeople.

Temperance and Seeley attempt to get Denise to make an impression of her teeth in a mold. After a certain amount of drunken philosophizing, she consents.

Zack shows Angela marks he found on Ann Noyse’s sternum that are too regular to have been made by anything other than a machine. He explains that they are exactly 2.4 millimeters apart.

Temperance gets a cell phone call from Angela as she and Seeley leave the bar. Zack sends the magnified images to her computer via satellite and she deduces that a sternum spreader made the marks on Ann Noyse’s sternum. She wonders aloud how she and Dr. Rigby could’ve missed the marks on the sternum and suddenly realizes that he didn’t.

Walking down the hall of the medical examiner’s office, Temperance argues with Seeley about having a gun. Seeley concedes and gives her his spare firearm but cautions her to be careful. They enter the lab, but it’s empty.

They head for the incinerator and find Dr. Rigby trying to dispose of the bodies. Temperance maneuvers her way behind him and knocks him unconscious with a bedpan.

Jack and Zack anxiously await the delivery woman’s arrival as Angela walks up to stand beside them. The woman arrives with the package and Jack indicates that he person who signs for it is her choice for a date. She hands the package to Angela.

Temperance and Seeley are having breakfast in Aurora. Temperance begins discussing cannibalism and Seeley pushes his plate away. He starts to eat again when she tells him she’s going to return to go skiing with Charlie in the winter. She says, “I bet he’s a great skier. His hips and thighs are perfectly developed for strength and maneuverability.” Seeley pushes his plate away. She tries to feed him cornflakes, but he refuses

When Booth first shows Brennan the photos of the hand she remarks that it is probably male, based on the size. However, the photos show no marks or indicators of the size of the hand, so it would be impossible for her to make such a conclusion. (edit) Bones and Booth's arrival in Aurora, WA was computer-generated. Their car pulls up to the curb in front of several other cars. The shadow their car casts does not extend to the edge of the curb, while the other cars' shadows extend well on to the sidewalk. (edit) During one of the scenes in the woods, the rock known as Half Dome appears. Half Dome is in Yosemite National Park, approximately 700 miles from the Washington border. Hodgins asks Angela: If we were a Peruvian soccer team and crashed in the Andes, who would you rather eat? Me or Zach?

Hodgins is talking about an Uruguayan rugby team that actually did crash in the Andes Mountains, in South America. They became so desperately hungry they had to eat thier dead team mates in order to survive. (edit) Dr Rigby says that he is no policeman. However Alex Carter who plays him, did play a policeman in a recurring role in Point Pleasant and as Detective Vartann on C.S.I. (edit) Angela: You're kidding? It's like watching the clash of the horny Titans.

The Clash of the Titans is a very well known movie based on Greek mythology.
It has also been used in Veronica Mars as a play on words in the title of an episode of season One: "Clash of the Tritons." (edit) Sheriff Chris Scutter: We see this kind of thing all the time. Kids come up here, get baked, do their own version of the Blair Witch Project.

At the Jeffersonian Medico-Legal Lab, Angela and Jack discuss what they are currently working on as they watch Zack talking to a woman with whom he broke up recently. They interrupt Zack’s conversation to hurry him out the door of the Jeffersonian to the car where Temperance and Seeley are waiting for him.

In the car, Seeley tries to discuss the case as Temperance and Zack try to discuss personal issues. Seeley manages to keep the conversation on a professional level and informs them of the situation regarding the case they are going to investigate. He explains that it’s not only a case but is a political situation and he asks them to follow his lead once they arrive at the Hanover Preparatory School.

At Hanover Preparatory Academy in Prince George’s County, Maryland, a security guard at the gate asks them for identification. The guard insists on escorting them to see the head of security (Sanders) even though Seeley objects.

Sanders and Sheriff Roach lead them to the crime scene. Temperance tells Zack to shoot video first so as not to disturb the crows feeding on the body and then shoot stills. Seeley orders the headmaster (Ronson) to step back after Ronson makes an insistent request that they remove the body from the tree. The head falls from the body and Temperance catches it. Just after that, the body falls to the ground.

At the Jeffersonian, the team analyzes the remains. Temperance finds a cochlear implant, which will help them identify the body.

At Hanover, Seeley pressures Ronson and Sanders to find out if any students are missing. Seeley receives a cell phone call from Temperance and she updates him with regard to the team’s findings. He is reluctant to discuss the case in detail in front of the two men and hangs up on her. Ronson insists that it is a suicide and implies that he expects Seeley to agree. Seeley requests a complete list of staff and students to which Sanders protests since the information is highly confidential. Seeley insists.

Seeley arrives at the lab to discuss the results of the team’s analysis. Jack informs him that they have traced the cochlear implant to Nestor Olivos and Seeley checks the list to find Nestor’s name there. They tell Seeley the hyoid was broken which is common in adults who are strangled, but not so in teenagers.

In the FBI Major Crime Unit Washington Field Office, Mickey Santana urges Temperance to make a definitive declaration as to the cause of death. He informs her that there can be no official investigation unless the death is ruled a homicide. Temperance makes an official declaration that Nestor Olivos is a homicide victim.

In the car on the drive to inform Nestor’s parents of his death, Seeley tells Temperance that the school officials implied that he should rule the death a suicide. He advises her of what to say to Nestor’s parents.

At the Ambassador’s Residence at the Venezuelan Embassy, Seeley informs Nestor’s parents of their son’s death. Temperance hands the medallion they found around Nestor’s neck to the Ambassador (Nestor’s mother) after she informs the father that they do not need to identify him. The parents indicate that they received an e-mail from Nestor saying he was with his roommate and Seeley requests a copy of it.

At the lab, Zack discusses his relationship issues with Jack while they analyze Nestor’s remains.

Temperance and Seeley meet with the school psychiatrist who tells them that Nestor was a high suicide risk. Ronson insists this indicates that it was a suicide and Seeley informs them that he will question Nestor’s roommate in the morning.

Temperance and Seeley enter Wong Fu’s restaurant and Sid seats them. Sid tells them he’ll bring their food and Temperance comments that they didn’t order. Seeley explains that Sid knows what people want better than they do. The rest of the team arrives and sits at the table. They discuss the case and spread photographs of the body on the table. Jack orders the 7-organ soup but the others don’t order anything. Sid brings the food and is extremely upset over the pictures on the table. He gathers them and puts them back in the manila folder as he insists that they not view them in his restaurant. The team tells Seeley that Nestor died 10 to 14 days ago and Seeley produces the copy of the e-mail that Nestor’s parents received from him 7 days ago.

At the J. Edgar Hoover FBI Building, Seeley interrogates Nestor’s roommate, Tucker. Tucker admits to sending the message so Nestor could be with a girl but claims he does not know the girl’s identity.

Temperance is watching the video Zack made of the body when Dr. Goodman escorts Ambassador Olivos into her office. She shuts off the video and gets up from her desk to greet them. Dr. Goodman leaves and the ambassador hands Temperance a framed photograph of Nestor. She hands Temperance a DVD and asks her to watch it. They watch the DVD of Nestor receiving his implant and experiencing the ability to hear for the first time. The ambassador states that she does not believe it was suicide and that she fears the school will try to convince Temperance to rule it as one in order to protect itself. Temperance promises the ambassador that she will find the truth.

At the Imagining Unit Medico-Legal Lab, Angela runs holographic simulations to illustrate that an extra 90 kilos would be required to break Nestor’s hyoid.

As Temperance and Seeley approach the interior stairs at the school, they encounter a man descending them. Temperance pushes past Seeley and they both sprint up the stairs in pursuit.

Temperance enters Nestor’s room and the man closes the door and approaches her. She kicks him and knocks him into the closed door. Seeley opens the door and she trips the man, which causes him to stumble. Seeley punches him in the face several times rendering him unconscious. They check his identification and discover that he is security at the Venezuelan Embassy.

At the Venezuelan Embassy, Temperance and Seeley inform the ambassador that her son’s death has been declared a homicide after she tells them that she sent her security guard to the school to prove that her son could have been murdered.

Temperance and Seeley search Nestor’s room at the school and find a DVD hidden in a CD case.

At the lab, they watch the DVD and discover that it’s a copy of a film of Nestor having sex with a female student. Jack is becoming ill from the soup.

Temperance and Seeley show stills taken from the tape to Ronson and Sanders. They discover that the men are already aware that the students are making sex tapes. Seeley demands that they hand over all confiscated tapes. Ronson refuses and Sanders explains that Sheriff Roach already has them. Seeley wants the girl’s name and threatens to take Ronson to FBI headquarters in handcuffs when he refuses to provide it. Ronson acquiesces and tells him her name is Camden Destry.

Seeley interrogates Camden at the FBI headquarters. She claims that she was not involved with Nestor. Seeley shows the sex video and she becomes upset and admits that they were involved and that she loved him.

Temperance and Seeley get the tapes from Sheriff Roach.

While watching the tapes, Temperance recognizes Melody Destry (Camden’s mother) having sex with Tucker.

Seeley interrogates Tucker at FBI headquarters. Tucker admits that he, Camden, and Nestor blackmailed Melody.

Jack explains that Nestor had a high dosage of ketamine in his system, which would have prevented him from struggling while he was being hung in the tree. Jack belches and Seeley tells him to return to Wong Fu’s and allow Sid to bring him something for the heartburn. The comment leads Temperance to realize that Nestor’s gastric fluids weakened the hyoid. This would cause it to break when the rope strangled him.

Temperance has Angela enter the new figures into the system and run simulations with them. Angela determines that it would take approximately 8 days for the hyoid to crack. Temperance concludes that the new findings are congruent with suicide and Seeley accuses her of helping the school to cover up a murder.

Temperance is looking at the framed photograph of Nestor as Angela enters and tries to convince her that Nestor didn’t commit suicide. Temperance tells Angela that she can’t be sure it’s not a suicide without evidence and Angela tells her she can get the necessary evidence.

Angela shows them a snippet from which the sex tape was made that was recovered from Nestor’s hard drive. Temperance notices that Camden rolled her eyes for the camera, which proves she knew it was there.

Seeley interrogates Camden while Tucker is being interrogated in another room. Camden wants to know what Tucker is saying. She gets nervous and tells them that Tucker decided they should make the tape and blackmail Nestor. Instead of paying them, Nestor got upset when they showed him the tape and he killed himself. Seeley places her under arrest for Nestor’s murder and she decides to cooperate if they will make a deal with her.

In Temperance’s office, Seeley tells the ambassador that Ronson and Sanders will lose their jobs and that the two children who murdered her son are in custody. As she begins to leave, Temperance stops her and hands her the framed photograph of Nestor. She tells the ambassador that her son was a good man and that “he died because he was trying to do the right thing.”

At Wong Fu’s, Jack is sitting at the bar eating while Angela and Zack are sitting at a table in a booth discussing Zack’s relationship issues. Temperance and Seeley arrive and Seeley’s upset that the team have invaded the restaurant. He indicates that the bar is his territory and they can have the booth. Temperance comes up to the bar and puts an access pass to the lab on it as she says “absit invidia.” She returns to the table and Seeley picks up the pass and smiles.

Brennan: (frustratedly) First, you tell me I'm too task oriented. Then, when I say Good morning you say that I should concentrate on the job.

A man with lesions on his face leaves the Arab-American Friendship League, gets into an SUV and drives away. As he’s speeding down the street, his cell phone rings. The display says Sahar and he answers it. He speaks curtly in Arabic and hangs up the phone. In his anger, he begins to drive faster and more erratic. The cell phone rings again but he doesn’t answer it. He pulls to a stop in front of a café and the SUV explodes.

Seeley arrives on the scene and meets Temperance and Angela there. Angela is visibly shaken by the burned flesh and dead bodies but Temperance forges ahead seemingly unmoved by the destruction. The three of them begin to examine the crime scene. Zack arrives and takes pictures of the crime scene while Temperance collects the evidence in bags. Angela is too upset to help and excuses herself so Seeley takes her place somewhat reluctantly.

The team examines the remains of the driver in the lab at the Jeffersonian. Seeley arrives with Agent Gibson from Homeland Security and Temperance objects to having Gibson look over their shoulders while they conduct their analysis.

As they walk to her office, Temperance and Seeley argue about the necessity of having Homeland Security present while the team analyzes the remains.

Gibson looks at all the artifacts on display in the lab as Temperance and Seeley enter. Zack offers an update on the team’s progress. He pours flesh eating beetles from a jar into a container in which the remains are housed to prepare the bones for examination. Gibson receives a cell phone call. He turns to Temperance after he hangs up and says: “The president wants to know how long your ID is going to take.” Temperance looks at the beetles as she responds: “Why don’t you ask them?” and walks away.

Seeley and Temperance discuss the case with Farid and Sahar Masruk in the FBI Interrogation Room. Sahar gives Temperance medical records and information about her husband, Hamid, to aid in the identification of the driver. Sahar insists that her husband is not a terrorist.

Temperance arrives at the lab and Zack updates her on their findings. Gibson tries to get information from Temperance but she walks into her office without revealing anything of value regarding the driver’s identity.

Angela enters Temperance’s office and they discuss why she wasn’t able to help at the crime scene. Angela turns the conversation to the weekend and tries to convince Temperance to go to a club with her and invite Seeley to come with them but Temperance protests. Zack interrupts the conversation to tell Temperance that “the bones are clean” and she leaves Angela sitting on the couch alone.

Temperance and Zack analyze the bones. She makes a positive identification and declares that the body is Hamid Masruk. Gibson insists that she allow him to deliver her findings to the FBI, but she refuses and walks out of the lab leaving him standing there flustered.

As he puts on a shirt, Seeley walks toward his front door to answer the person who is knocking on it. Temperance is standing there with a folder clutched to her chest and comes inside. She hands the folder to Seeley and tells him that Hamid Masruk is the driver. Seeley’s girlfriend, Tessa, walks up wearing one of his shirts and he introduces Temperance and Tessa to each other. The three of them engage in idle chat and Temperance and Seeley leave for the FBI Bureau after he kisses Tessa goodbye.

Temperance and Seeley argue over Seeley being in a relationship as they exit the elevator at the bureau. Mickey Santana interrupts and Seeley informs him of the bomber’s identification. Santana explains that Hamid Masruk was murdered.

In the FBI Interrogation Room, Temperance and Seeley return Hamid’s belongings to Sahar and inform her that he has been identified as the driver of the SUV and is a murder victim. Temperance offers that she will give Sahar all the remains that she is able to collect to ensure that “he can be purified for burial.” Seeley questions Sahar about the calls made to Hamid’s cell phone from their home just before the explosion and she admits that they had an argument involving a family matter. Seeley tells her to contact them if she should think of anything else they might need to know to aid in the investigation.

As they enter Shapiro’s restaurant, Seeley is trying to convince Temperance that Sahar was having an affair. She argues that his assumptions are conjecture as Angela watches them from the table where she has been sitting. Angela joins them at the bar and agrees with Seeley. Temperance storms off to return to the lab and Angela questions Seeley about his relationship with Tessa once Temperance is gone.

When Temperance returns to the lab, Zack informs her that he’s having difficulty fitting the skull fragments together. Jack offers that the chemicals from the blast can have a degenerative effect but Temperance asserts that it wouldn’t happen that quickly. She determines that he either had a degenerative disease or was exposed to a toxin and that his brother has the same issue.

Seeley examines a cross hanging on the wall at Farid Masruk’s home. Farid enters the room with a tray and explains that he is a Christian which caused conflict within the family. Farid, Temperance, and Seeley discuss the family problems. Farid reveals that Sahar was having an affair and he gives them the name of the man she was seeing. He tells them that he and Hamid had dinner with Ali Ladjavardi in an attempt to make peace. They ask Farid about the medical condition that he and Hamid seem to share and ask if they can have access to his medical records and he consents.

At the lab, Angela offers gossip about Seeley and Tessa as Jack and Zack continue to examine the remains. Angela informs them that she is “going to go check out this girlfriend” and leaves.

Seeley interrogates Ladjavardi in the FBI Interrogation Room as Temperance watches through the two way mirror. Santana interrupts the interrogation and releases Ladjavardi much to Seeley’s chagrin. Seeley protests but Santana is adamant as he explains that Ladjavardi is a Homeland Security mole at the Arab-American Friendship League and they don’t want his cover to be blown.

In the car, Temperance and Seeley argue about him being angry over Ladjavardi’s release. Seeley wants to change the subject and they begin to argue over his relationship with Tessa instead.

Temperance enters the lab and wonders why Jack is reconstructing the bomb. He admits that he’s doing it to see if he can do a better job of it than the FBI. She examines the reconstructed skull and finds microscopic fissures in the bones which indicate that the damage was caused by a toxin rather than the blast. She asks Zack to find some bone marrow to analyze in order to support her theory.

Angela drops her purse near the table where Tessa is having lunch and strikes up a seemingly innocent conversation with her.

Angela returns to the lab and tells them what she discovered about Tessa being insecure in her relationship with Seeley. Seeley enters the lab and they all stop talking suddenly and stare at him making him feel self conscious. Temperance tells him Hamid was poisoned but they can’t determine what toxin was used. Jack suggests that they use some of the beetles to determine the toxin.

Jack finds that Hamid and Farid were both poisoned by a pure form of dioxin and reveals that it would remain in the system for years and cause several diseases.

Temperance and Angela use the Angelator to determine when the brothers were exposed to the dioxin.

Temperance and Seeley confront Ladjavardi but find that he was out of town when the brothers were poisoned.

At the lab, Jack and Zack discover that gypsum was not used to build the bomb but was present in the building where the bomb was built. They decide that if the building can be found, the bomb creator’s identity will be revealed.

Seeley and Temperance are in the car arguing when she gets a cell phone call. Zack gives her the details about the bomb insulation. They discover that the bomb was made in Farid Masruk’s neighborhood and Seeley turns the car around and they head for Farid’s home.

Seeley breaks down the door and he and Temperance enter Farid’s home to search for evidence. Temperance is relaying what she finds via cell phone to Jack and he tells her that the components would be used to produce the dioxin. Seeley finds an area with exposed insulation in a closet that supports the findings of gypsum. They find evidence that he is a terrorist and that he’s built another bomb.

In the car, Temperance is on the phone with Angela and Seeley is on the phone with federal agents trying to figure out what the target is. Angela finds that there is a peace conference at the Hamilton Cultural Center and they decide that is the most likely target for an attack. Seeley insists that agents be deployed to the Hamilton Cultural Center immediately.

Temperance and Seeley arrive at the Hamilton Cultural Center and search the lower level for Farid. They move to the second level to get an overview of the crowd and Temperance spots him. Seeley is reluctant to shoot him without seeing his face, so she calls out to him. As soon as Farid faces them, Seeley shoots him in the forehead and kills him. Gibson rushes to the body and confirms that Farid was carrying a bomb.

Over a drink at Shapiro’s, Temperance and Seeley discuss his ill feelings about having to kill Farid. Temperance reminds Seeley that he saved a lot of people by killing Farid. She asks him if he should go home so that Tessa will not worry about him. He agrees and leaves her sitting at the bar to finish her drink alone.

Temperance works on identifying the remains of civil war soldiers while Seeley has an uncomfortably silent dinner with Tessa at his apartment.

This is an allusion to a line from the play Hamlet by William Shakespeare. Angela is saying that maybe Dr. Brennan protesting so strongly about having feelings for Booth is an indication that she does have feelings for him, and that her protestations are a defense mechanism to hide her feelings. The pilot begins as Dr. Temperance (or Bones as I will refer to her from now on) returning to America from working in Guatemala. Right away, we see Bones as a strong and wily character, identifying the fact that someone was following her almost immediately, and beating them to the ground when they attempted to attack her. However, the follower was a National Security agent, for which she is then held in police custody.

A body is brought from the water, and Bones investigates it. She is immediately able to deduce certain facts, such as the 'delicate features', the fact that the person played tennis and their age. Also, she notices that the body has been weighed down, so as to submerge it completely within the lake.

Bones' workers, while analyzing the bones (during which they find rings from a gold chain and what appears to be frog bones), mock the existence of themselves in her book, Bred in the Bone. Bones completely denies the fact that they are the characters, claiming they are purely fictitious. However, each of her workers can identify themselves in the book, although none seem to mind at all, it's more of a jovial matter.

Bones stays up all night at her desk piecing together what looks to be hundreds of tiny skull fragments which were dredged from the lake. She remains there all night, completes the skull and falls asleep at her desk.

Seeley Booth confronts his boss, asking for Bones to be enlisted as an active agent, as she will only work under the conditions of having full access to the case (because in the past, she has had some bad experiences). His boss accepts the proposal.

The scene changes and we see Bones asleep in her house, awoken by what she believes is an intruder. She takes a baseball bat from under her bed and precedes to the attack the intruder who is carrying a television. After the attack (which involves smashing the TV instead of the person), Bones identifies the intruder as Peter, her ex-boyfriend. This not only tells us that Bones has had a relationship in the past, but could also point to her not having any right now, since she immediately grabbed the baseball bat believing it was an intruder, instead of thinking it could be her boyfriend.

The bones and skull are reconstructed using a holographic image. Using utilities on the custom built application, the investigators are able to add skin tones and skin densities. Bones is able to identify the body (or the holographic representation) as Cleo Louise Eller; a girl who went missing after apparently having an affair with a senator (unconfirmed, however, states Seeley who worked on the actual case of the disappearance).

Seeley thinks the stalker; Oliver Laurier is behind the murder.

Bones and Seeley inform the parents on the confirmed death of their daughter. Bones however seems to have an inability to be compassionate, and attempts to give the parents direct scientific facts, and begins to answer 'Yes' when asked if their daughter suffered. Seely ducks out of this though, giving the family some closure.

We find out that the rings found around Cleo's neck were a bronze star won by her father during the war.

Seeley and Bones begin to heatedly discuss the fact that Bones was being too scientific, during which Seely declares that Bones never releases anything personal about herself.

Now in the lab, everyone is assessing the bones once more. We learn the victim was stabbed and that they were anxious, depressed and nauseous. Bones works out that the "frog bones" are actually fetal ear bones, meaning that Cleo was pregnant.

Bones confronts the senator and his assistant, proceeding to attack the aide after he tries to take back chewing gum Bones removed from the dustbin for a sample of the senator's DNA. This attack and confrontation leads to Bones being taken off the case, and because he vouched for her, Seeley is taken off of consideration for heading the new unit, and the position is given to the aptly named Agent First.

Even though he is off the case in the morning, Seeley determines that the senator is hiding something as he was extremely against Bones having his DNA sample.

Bones and Seeley confront Oliver, the stalker, who is very antsy and sweaty, as though nervous. He denies the claim Bones confronts him with that he murdered Cleo. He says that Ken and the senator framed him for being a stalker, when in actual fact he is, or was, her good friend.

We find out that Cleo's fingertips and skin pads were removed, and that her head was smashed in with a sledgehammer type weapon.

We find out both of Bones' parents vanished when she was 15.

Seeley is scared to implicate and search the senator's home for traces of blood in the concrete floor in his basement, due to the fact he is a senator. But after a chat with Bones, he appears to be angered into doing it.

Bones is very sensitive about her parents, who she lost when she was 15. Seely gets a warrant to search Bethlehem's house (the senator) because all the facts point to him as their murderer, and not, he states, because he was afraid of him.

The scene cuts and we see squad cars and police searching the senators abode.

Seeley is disappointed and angry at Bones for accusing the senator when they don't find enough evidence. They find a hammer, but not blood in the concrete.

Bones suddenly realizes that the special type of earth that they are looking for blood in is also used for tropical fish, and Oliver previously told her and Seely that Ken, the senator's aide, kept and cared for a lot of tropical fish.

Bones races over to Ken's house and sees him attempting to destroy evidence. She breaks into his house and confronts him. Ken has new linoleum, with concrete underneath, and he pours gasoline over the floor to set it alight and burn the evidence. She shoots Ken, subduing him until the police arrive.

Time passes and we see Bones and the rest of the investigators at the funeral of Cleo Eller.

Goof: At the funeral Brennan walks over to the coffin and lays a rose on the right hand end of the coffin, on top of a few other roses. Later in the same scene, Cleo's parents lay roses down in the same spot, but there are no other roses there yet. (edit) Goof: In the cast credits at the end they credited actress Naja Hill with playing character Cleo Hill, when the character is in fact called Cleo Eller, the murder victim. (edit) If Brennan is so good beating people with her martial art skills, it does not make sense for her to shoot the lawyer. There could be two reasons: one, starting a fire is a lot faster than a kick; two, it was added to the plot, since Brennan was later charged with this crime therefore is unable to get a gun permit, thus she is constantly begging Booth for a gun. (edit) Dr. Brennan's second sentence to Booth is:

EPIPHYSEAL FUSION – The epiphyses are the end regions of the bone. The epiphyses of long bones remain separated by a growing zone of cartilage (the metaphysis) until the child reaches skeletal maturity (18 to 25 years of age), whereupon the cartilage ossifies, fusing the two together. Thus the degree of epiphyseal fusion is a good indicator of a skeleton's age.
ENTOMOLOGIST – A scientist who studies insects. Insects have many kinds of interactions with humans and other forms of life on earth, so it is an important specialty within biology. Unlike many other fields however, entomologists include both persons studying insects for their own sake, and those employed by commercial concerns interested in the control of insects.
FORENSIC ENTOMOLOGY – Is the study of insects that scavenge on corpses; knowledge of their habits can yield useful information about crimes, such as an approximate time of death or whether or not a victim was alive during a fire, using facts such as what stage of the life cycle the insect/bug is in, et cetera.
RANA TEMPORARIA – A Common Frog. A tailless amphibian with smooth skin. Tends to jump, not walk.
DIATOMACEOUS EARTH – This is a geological deposit made up of crushed fossilized skeletons of siliceous marine and fresh water organisms, particularly diatoms and other algae. (edit)

This is a reference to the fact that the character Temperance Brennan in Kathy Reich's books (which the series is based on) though originally from North Carolina also works part time in Montreal.
